adidas Confirms Germany Farewell Kit: What Will It Look Like?

After more than seven decades, the partnership between adidas and the DFB, Germany's football federation, is coming to an end. As a send-off, the German national team gets one more new kit. The only question left is what it will look like.

The final chapter between adidas and the DFB, Germany's football federation, is getting its own kit. Before Nike takes over as the German national team's supplier from 2027, adidas is releasing a farewell shirt for the Nations League. That's now been confirmed by adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden.

“There will be a new kit, a farewell kit, which will then come out for the Nations League,” Gulden said on the “Spielmacher” podcast by 360 Media. The shirt is set to make its on-pitch debut on September 24, when Germany play the Netherlands in Amsterdam for the first time under new head coach Jürgen Klopp.

Gulden gave no details on the design of the new Germany kit. However, images of a not-yet officially unveiled Germany shirt have been circulating for months.

Is the Leaked Black Germany Kit adidas' Farewell Kit?

Footy Headlines, the outlet specializing in football kit leaks, had already reported back in August 2025 that adidas was planning its own farewell kit for Germany to mark the end of the shared era.

In early May 2026, Footy Headlines then published the first images. Even then, the outlet linked the shirt to the previously announced farewell kit, though it said at the time it couldn't confirm with certainty that it was actually the same kit.

According to the leak, the shirt is predominantly black. Vertical gold pinstripes are said to run down the front. White adidas stripes are said to sit on the shoulders, while the V-neck is expected to feature white and gold details.

Instead of the current adidas performance logo, the Trefoil is said to appear on the chest, alongside a classic DFB crest. The numbers visible in the leaked images also have a distinctly retro-inspired look. Together with the gold diamond pinstripes and the detailing on the collar and cuffs, this would give the shirt a clear retro feel. adidas has not yet confirmed whether the final design will actually look like this or whether these elements are deliberately intended as a farewell tribute.

Following Gulden's confirmation, Footy Headlines now classifies the previously leaked black-and-gold shirt as the farewell kit.

The Germany Farewell Kit Ends the adidas Era

With the turn of the year, a relationship that has shaped the German national team's look for generations comes to an end. adidas has accompanied the DFB for more than seven decades. The national team also wore the brand's products for all four German World Cup titles, in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.

From 2027, Nike takes over as supplier for the German national teams. The contract with the US company runs until 2034.

Before that, adidas gets one final chance to put a visual full stop on its shared history with the DFB. Whether that really comes in black, gold and white should become clear before long.
