Taking It to the Streets: SOCIETAS Brings 1860’s New Kit to Giesing

Kit launches tend to happen on screens these days. SOCIETAS is taking TSV 1860 Munich’s new third kit onto the streets of Giesing instead, with large-format posters and a message from the fans.

On the corner of Volckmerstraße and Grünwalder Straße, a few steps from the Grünwalder Stadion, a cylindrical advertising column promotes TSV 1860 Munich’s new third kit. More large-format posters hang at Silberhornstraße U-Bahn station. They show people wearing the new shirt of the Lions, as 1860 are known, alongside the message “Football for the People”.

Football for the People

The message on the posters comes from the Lions’ fanbase. “Football for the People” already features on the 2026/27 home and away shirts, along the lower hem at the back.

The idea came from fan group Westkurve Sechzig München. In early July 2026, it launched a crowdfunding campaign to get the slogan onto the shirts. By 14 October 2026, 5,660 supporters had donated more than €358,000, against an original target of €250,000.

A few weeks before the campaign began, 1860 had been refused a licence for Germany’s third tier, the 3. Liga, after failing to submit proof of liquidity in time. The missing licence meant forced relegation to the fourth-tier Regionalliga Bayern. The club then terminated its partnership with investor Hasan Ismaik. At the end of June, its professional football company filed for insolvency. The fans see their campaign as part of a push for an independent TSV 1860, driven by the belief that football belongs to the fans, not to investors.

With its poster campaign, SOCIETAS picks up the message once again – this time alongside the third kit, on the streets of Giesing, the Lions’ historic home.

The shirt comes in pale mint green, a clear departure from the club’s traditional colours of white and blue.

Sales are set to open on 22 October at 7pm. On the posters, SOCIETAS gives the time a Lions twist: 18:60.

Until then, the kit is on show around the neighbourhood. To see the campaign, you need neither a club shop nor a screen for now. A walk through Giesing will do.
