Once a year, Bayern Munich swap their usual red for colours, patterns and details rarely seen on a football shirt. For Oktoberfest 2026, the Oktoberfest jersey is more colourful than ever. The story of Bayern Munich’s Oktoberfest jerseys.
Back in the 2013/14 season, the colour combination alone made Bayern Munich’s intentions fairly clear: this was about adidas’ Oktoberfest. The white top nodded to a traditional Bavarian shirt, the brown shorts to lederhosen; green details completed the Oktoberfest-inspired look.
It wasn’t an Oktoberfest jersey in today’s sense, though. In hindsight, that Bavarian-inspired kit pretty much previewed a concept Bayern would keep returning to for years.
2021: Bayern’s First Official Oktoberfest Jersey – Minus the Oktoberfest
It took a full eight years for an official Oktoberfest jersey to arrive. In September 2021, Bayern and adidas unveiled a dark green special edition with gold logos and stripes. Edelweiss embroidery appeared around the crest and on the back of the neck.
There was just one catch: Oktoberfest itself had been cancelled for a second year running because of the pandemic. That didn’t stop Bayern and their kit supplier from launching an Oktoberfest jersey anyway.
Bayern wore it exactly once, in the 7-0 home win over VfL Bochum on 18 September at the Allianz Arena, in the Bundesliga. That match marked the start of what has since become an annual tradition.
2022: Burgundy Replaces Dark Green
Oktoberfest returned the following year – and really, how could Munich possibly have gone a third year running without it? Hard to even picture.
Fittingly, adidas switched things up straight away. Burgundy replaced dark green, joined by gold details and the edelweiss once more. The second official Oktoberfest jersey still leaned heavily on colours and details associated with Bavarian traditional dress.
2023: Mountain Flowers Take Over
A year later, you needed a moment just to count all the flowers. The 2023 Oktoberfest jersey, in light green, was covered in a darker pattern of alpine mountain flowers.
For this edition, adidas also brought back a historic Bayern crest, one that traced back to the club’s founding document. The flowers were no longer confined to a small edelweiss motif at the neck. Now they spread right across the shirt.
2024: Oktoberfest Gets Its Own Bayern Crest
On the 2024 grey jersey, the biggest change sat right on the chest. For the first time, Bayern used a specially designed Oktoberfest crest, one that went on to appear across the wider Oktoberfest collection as well.
The jersey also picked up a polo collar, and the adidas Originals trefoil replaced the modern adidas performance logo on the chest. By this point, the project had grown well beyond a single special jersey released once a year. A whole Oktoberfest collection had taken shape around it.
2025: Oktoberfest Meets Bayern’s 125th Anniversary
In 2025, Bayern tied its Oktoberfest jersey to the club’s 125th anniversary. The shirt came in off-white with green-embroidered cuffs, drawing on the anniversary jersey unveiled earlier that spring.
That anniversary design, in turn, referenced Bayern’s three major home grounds: Grünwalder Stadion, the Olympiastadion, and the Allianz Arena. The Oktoberfest crest and the trefoil stayed put, right on schedule for a tradition that was only just getting going.
2026: Oktoberfest in Full Bloom
In 2026, Bayern and adidas moved on from their more restrained recent look and unveiled their boldest Oktoberfest jersey yet.
Against a black base, a dense, almost painterly floral print runs across the shirt. Red, blue, green, yellow and orange overlap on the front and sleeves, while the three adidas stripes on the shoulders stay plain white.
The Oktoberfest crest and trefoil still sit on the chest, and “Oktoberfest” is printed on the back of the neck. Familiar details meet a jersey that’s considerably less understated than its predecessors.
The new jersey makes its debut on 18 September against Union Berlin, the day before Oktoberfest officially opens. There’s a reason for the early outing: Bayern, oddly enough, won’t play a single match during Oktoberfest itself this year, thanks to the international break.
From the Bavarian-inspired look of 2013 to the floral print of 2026, adidas has found some fairly different answers to the same question: how much Oktoberfest can fit on a football shirt? This year, the answer is clear – quite a lot.
