1860’s New Tracksuit Could Have Come Straight From the ’90s

Societas

New TSV 1860 Munich kit supplier Societas has released a tracksuit inspired by the ’90s. Demand could hardly have been greater. But there is good news for everyone who missed out on the first drop.

In the 1990s, you only had to look at the touchline: coaches in particular stood there in oversized jackets and wide, balloon-fit tracksuits. Back then, that was simply the style of the era.

Today it is called the “oversized fit.” And because retro is fully back in fashion, what was once just the look of its time is now being celebrated all over again. Either way, Societas has shown exactly the right instinct with its latest tracksuit for TSV 1860 Munich.

Munich-based Societas has created a two-piece for the Lions that could just as easily have been worn on the touchline three decades ago by legendary 1860 coach Werner Lorant – cigarette in the corner of his mouth, clouds of smoke included.

The tracksuit comes in navy, light blue and white, with the historic FA crest of the football department and the Societas logo. Across the back of the jacket sits “TSV MÜNCHEN VON 1860 E.V.”

Both jacket and pants are made of polyamide – which, of course, is exactly what the ’90s vibe calls for.

Societas Announces: Sold Out in Under Five Minutes

No wonder, then, that demand for the new tracksuit – officially labelled a “Presentation Outfit” by Societas – was so high that it sold out in under five minutes of the drop.

1860 may not have played top-flight football since 2004 – and were even relegated from the third to the fourth tier this summer – but when it comes to backing their club, their supporters remain in a league of their own.

So will only a lucky few be seen wearing the new Societas tracksuit at Grünwalder Stadion? Don’t worry, that’s unlikely.

A Restock of the 1860 Tracksuit Is Coming

Anyone left staring at an empty cart after the first few minutes is set to get another chance. Shortly after the first drop sold out, Societas announced a bigger restock in the comments under its Instagram post. The label has not yet given a date.

Societas is also planning to restock the home shirt, after 8,000 of them sold within 60 minutes shortly beforehand.

Following the club’s relegation this summer, Societas took over kitting out the newly founded operating company of TSV München von 1860 with sportswear – including, of course, the shirts. The Munich brand replaced Joma as kit supplier, with the deal running for three seasons through summer 2029.

The collaboration, in fact, began back in 2024. That year, Societas developed a green-and-gold club shirt with the e.V., 17 stripes representing TSV’s different sports departments. Further joint projects followed, including a shirt marking the football department’s 125th anniversary and an all-black tracksuit.

More products are set to follow the home shirt and this season’s tracksuit. As Societas told the Lions’ fans: “This was just the beginning!”

When Will the Lion Return to TSV 1860?

Fans will still have to wait a little longer before the lion crest returns to TSV 1860’s kit. Because commercial use of the well-known lion crest was initially unresolved, the new operating company switched to the historic football-department crest at the start of the season.

The company can now use the lion again. For the rest of this season, though, the FA crest is set to remain on the sportswear; in other areas, 1860 wants to bring the lion back gradually. From the 2027-28 season, the lion should then be present again on shirts, tracksuits and more.
