Manchester United are wearing royal blue away again. The new kit by adidas revisits a colour that has followed the club since its early years and had its finest moments during the Ferguson era.
Manchester United and adidas have unveiled the new away kit for the 2026/27 Premier League season. The choice fell on royal blue, a colour that needs no introduction at the club: blue jerseys have been part of United's history since the early years and have resurfaced repeatedly across away and change kits over the decades.
This time, adidas pairs the blue base with a subtle tonal stripe pattern that runs throughout the fabric. Red adidas stripes on the shoulders, along with red and white detailing on the V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs, provide the contrast. On the chest, the club crest sits alongside the adidas Trefoil.
Royal blue with history: Manchester United's away colour since the early years
Manchester United first wore blue as far back as 1902, then still a blue-and-white striped change kit. The colour's defining era, though, came in the 1990s: under Alex Ferguson, United wore a blue shirt in almost every season of the decade, winning 16 trophies along the way.
The best-known design from that era is the "Snowflake" shirt of the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons, a light blue design with a fine printed pattern that became one of the most coveted shirts in club history. Just how present that era still is became clear in April, when adidas released the original as a remake, complete with a collection styled after the early '90s.
Climacool+ and 3D fabric: The technology in the new Manchester United shirt
Technically, adidas relies on lightweight, body-mapped 3D engineered fabrics designed to enhance fit and freedom of movement. The Climacool+ materials are said to wick away moisture, while strategically placed ventilation zones are meant to support breathability during high-intensity play.
The set is completed by shorts and socks in the same royal blue with red accents. The away kit is available now via the United Store, selected adidas retail locations, and online at adidas.
