Dark green with history: Real Madrid's new away kit revives the colour of the 2012/13 cult jersey, the season Ronaldo scored at Old Trafford and Mourinho left the club.

Real Madrid and adidas have unveiled the new away kit for the 2026/27 season. The choice fell on dark green with off-white details, a colour with a special ring to it at the club: it comes from the 2012/13 third kit, which remains a cult favourite among fans to this day.

The design features a subtle geometric pattern inspired by the club's initials, alongside a modern collar with off-white trim and the Trefoil, adidas's historic three-leaf logo. Colour-wise, the shirt flips the logic of the home kit: there, green and pink appear only as accents on the iconic white, on the away kit, green takes the lead role.

Old Trafford, Ronaldo, Mourinho: why Real Madrid's green shirt is a cult classic

When Real Madrid first wore the dark green third kit in 2012/13, it broke with the club's own tradition. For decades, Real Madrid's alternate kits had mostly alternated between purple and black. The green earned its cult status on a Champions League night at Old Trafford: Real Madrid won the round of 16 second leg away at Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the decisive goal on his return to his old ground and refused to celebrate out of respect for his former club.

That season was also José Mourinho's last as Real Madrid manager. Now the colour returns in the very summer that Mourinho sits on the Real Madrid bench again, more than a decade after his departure.

Real Madrid and adidas: The 2026/27 away kit also hits the basketball court

Technically, adidas relies on its latest Climacool+ technology, said to wick away moisture and improve ventilation to help keep players cool during intense phases. The design isn't limited to the pitch: Real Madrid's basketball team will also wear the green shirt in an adapted version.

The away kit is available now at Real Madrid's official stores, at selected adidas stores, and online at adidas.
