Rummenigge Fronts His Former Club's New Kit Campaign

Two Ballons d'Or, two European Cups with Bayern Munich, European champion in 1980, and two World Cup finals with Germany: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's career ranks among the greatest in European football. But the final chapter of his playing days wasn't written in Munich or Milan, it was written in Geneva.

Between 1987 and 1989, Rummenigge played for Servette FC, wearing the number 11 on his back. Nearly 40 years later, the club is bringing him back, as the face of the campaign for its new adidas Originals kit.

Rummenigge and Servette: Runner-Up with Number 11

After his years at Inter Milan, Rummenigge moved to Geneva in 1987 to wind down his career, though hardly in retirement mode: in the 1987/88 season, he led Servette to a second-place league finish, in 1989 he became top scorer of the Nationalliga A, and then he hung up his boots.

Servette was already an adidas club at the time, complete with the Trefoil logo that now serves as the emblem of adidas Originals. That's exactly where the new campaign picks up: the club, the brand, and one of its biggest names come together again nearly 40 years later.

Blue and Gold, a Crest From the Archives: Servette's New Kit

The kit itself comes in royal blue and gold, with a reworked crest on the chest that draws on earlier versions of the club logo. It's the first piece of Servette FC's own adidas Originals collection, developed together with adidas and 11teamsports.

The kit is designed for the stands just as much as for everyday wear, sitting at the crossover of football, culture and fashion, as the club itself describes it.

Debut Against Lucerne: When the Kit First Takes the Pitch

The new kit will make its on-pitch debut on Saturday, 29th August, when Servette host FC Lucerne at Stade de Genève. It's available now at the club's online store.

The club sees the kit as a link between generations: for those who know Servette FC's history, and for those just beginning to write it.
