Almost entirely white, with the crest worn from 1977 to 1999: Eintracht Frankfurt's new away kit brings back a piece of club history fans still call the Binding eagle.
Eintracht Frankfurt and adidas have unveiled the new away kit for the 2026/27 season. The design comes almost entirely in white, skips the gimmicks, and instead leans on a detail with history: on the chest sits the old eagle crest the club wore from 1977 to 1999.
Black accents on the sleeve cuffs, the collar and the three classic adidas stripes provide the contrast, alongside black sponsor lettering and a subtle, off-white bar pattern woven into the fabric of the new jerseys. Next to the retro crest sits the Trefoil, adidas's historic three-leaf logo. Captain Robin Koch put it plainly in the club statement: „When we walk out in white, you feel the force from the stands right away.“
The Binding eagle: why Eintracht Frankfurt's old crest is a cult favourite
The 1977 eagle has its own name in Frankfurt fan culture. Because the agency-designed crest resembled the logo of a local beer brand, supporters nicknamed it the Binding eagle. It was also the club's first black eagle, traditionally the animal had been red on a white background, just as it is again on today's crest.
The old crest's era coincided with one of the club's most successful spells: Eintracht won the UEFA Cup in 1980, followed by German Cup wins in 1981 and 1988. Club legend Jay Jay Okocha, who wore the old eagle himself, recalls the attacking football of his Frankfurt years, what was known at the time as „Fußball 2000“, and calls the new shirt an honour for anyone who gets to wear it.

The new away kit from Eintracht Frankfurt forms the sharpest possible contrast to the home shirt, which has been available for a few weeks and leans on a modern striped look. While the home design drew mixed reactions from supporters, anticipation for the away kit was already building before the official reveal, with leaks circulating on social media for days.
The kit is available now via Eintracht's online shop, Frankfurt's fan shops, and adidas, just in time for the new Bundesliga season. For the launch, the club has also put together a programme at the stadium, including free entry to the Eintracht Museum and a photo station with the 1981 German Cup trophy.
