Liverpool FC and adidas revive the aesthetic of 1985 to 1988 with the new away shirt, complete with a heritage crest and a detail that pays tribute to generations of fans.
The Liverpool FC and adidas have unveiled the new away shirt for the upcoming 2026/27 season. Its blueprint comes from one of the most successful periods in the club's history: the design draws on the away shirts worn between 1985 and 1988.
The shirt was unveiled at an event in Brooklyn, New York, during the Reds' pre-season US tour.
Liverpool in an 80s look: the design of the new 2026/27 away shirt
The base is white, complemented by red and grey accents on the knitted armhole trims and the V-neck collar. The colour combination nods to the Reds' classic away looks from the mid-80s.
The heritage Liver Bird crest also makes its return: the bird within a shield alongside the club's wordmark, paired with the adidas Trefoil. The retro crest already featured on last season's third kit, and now appears on the away shirt as well.
Woven into the fabric is a specially engineered, subtle pattern that references historic Anfield match tickets and season tickets from decades past, a tribute to the generations of fans who have passed through the stadium's turnstiles. Liverpool complete the look with red shorts and white socks. It continues a trend: the home shirt for the season, unveiled back in May, is also retro-inspired.
Liverpool FC and adidas: retro looks meet modern technology
Beneath the retro look sits current technology: adidas is using its Climacool+ technology with lightweight materials designed to maximise freedom of movement.
Alongside the shirt comes an Originals collection in a retro style, including a tracksuit, a tee and the LFC Spezials, a club version of the adidas sneaker classic.
The away shirt is available now in official club stores, in Liverpool FC's online store, at adidas and via select retailers.
