Borussia Dortmund break with tradition: the new third kit comes in purple, unveiled in front of Tokyo's city hall, complete with a street football tournament and an appearance at Shibuya Crossing.
Borussia Dortmund and PUMA have unveiled the new third kit for the 2026/27 season. The choice of location was anything but ordinary: the shirt was presented during the Japan Tour in Tokyo, in front of the city's Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, one of the most famous advertising backdrops in the world.
The shirt itself also leaves familiar territory. Instead of black and yellow, BVB step out in a bold purple base, a deliberate break with tradition. The connection to the club's DNA remains, though: neon yellow accents on the V-neck and sleeve cuffs bridge the gap to the traditional club colours. The logos stand out in bright yellow against the purple background, while a finely woven pinstripe texture gives the shirt an athletic silhouette.

According to the club, the shirt is made for fans willing to go beyond the classic colour combinations. Purple is a genuinely rare sight for Borussia Dortmund, so the shirt is likely to spark plenty of conversation, on the terraces as much as in the comments section.

The shirt was also on display on the BVB players themselves, who were out and about in Tokyo: Jobe Bellingham, Waldemar Anton, Patrick Drewes and Almugera Kabar explored the city ahead of the unveiling, between arcade games, a matcha tea ceremony and a walk across Shibuya Crossing, arguably the world's busiest intersection, where they were quickly spotted wearing the new shirts.

The unveiling also came with football you could actually join in: right in front of city hall, the BVB World Street Series took place, a small-sided tournament giving local kids from Tokyo the chance to play against the backdrop of the government building. The initiative was supported by PUMA.
