From Queens to Piraeus: Aimé Leon Dore and European Football

Aimé Leon Dore

Aimé Leon Dore and Olympiacos are back with a second joint collection. But the New York label’s interest in European football now reaches beyond Greece.

An American varsity jacket in the colours of a Greek football club: for Aimé Leon Dore, the road runs from Queens to Piraeus. Basketball, baseball and American college culture shape the New York label. But the Greek roots of its founder, Teddy Santis, play their part too.

Since its founding in 2014, Aimé Leon Dore has combined classic menswear with sportswear and influences from the 1990s. Olympiacos are far from its only connection to European football.

Teddy Santis and the Greek Roots of Aimé Leon Dore

Teddy Santis was born in Queens to Greek immigrant parents and grew up in neighbourhoods including Astoria, one of the centres of New York’s Greek community. With Aimé Leon Dore, he set out to bring together the influences of New York and of his parents’ Greek homeland.

For its Fall/Winter 2021 campaign, the label travelled to Greece. In front of the camera were locals going about their daily lives: children, older people, fishermen and shepherds.

Aimé Leon Dore in Football: From Saka and Rice to Olympiacos

Aimé Leon Dore has worked with New Balance for years. In 2020 the two brought back the 550 basketball shoe, and since 2021 Teddy Santis has also been creative director of New Balance’s Made in USA line. For Bukayo Saka, Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance created their own version of the Furon football boot, which the England international wore at Euro 2024.

Back in spring 2024, Declan Rice, Leah Williamson and Rio Ferdinand had already stepped in front of the camera for “The World’s Borough”, the label’s London campaign.

With Olympiacos, the focus shifts from individual players to an entire club. The first joint collection with Greece’s most successful side arrived in August 2025, the club’s centenary year. A red-and-white varsity jacket was among its most striking pieces – a classic of American college culture, reinterpreted in the colours of Olympiacos. The squad wore it in October 2025 as they left for their Champions League game against Barcelona, and again a month later around their home match against Real Madrid.

Nottingham Forest and Aimé Leon Dore

In early 2026, Nottingham Forest’s players wore grey suits whose blazers carried the New York label’s lettering alongside the club crest. Unlike with Olympiacos, no joint collection was unveiled.

Both clubs share the same owner: Greek businessman Evangelos Marinakis, who took over Olympiacos in 2010 and Nottingham Forest in 2017.

Aimé Leon Dore and Olympiacos: The Second Collection

With the Fall/Winter 2026 capsule collection, Aimé Leon Dore and Olympiacos continue their partnership. The New York label has also appeared in English football. But its most lasting connection to a European club so far leads to Piraeus – to the country Teddy Santis’s parents left for New York.
