Chelsea returns to the basics with its new home kit – and does it to perfection

Chelsea / Nike

Chelsea and Nike have unveiled the club’s new home kit for the 2026/27 season. The lion once again takes centre stage in a clean and classic design.

Chelsea's new home kit comes in classic blue, with gold details on the Nike Swoosh and the lion badge. Visually, the kit stays calm and clear. It features a classic collar, a button closure at the neck and a tonal pattern across the front. That pattern references the Chelsea crest and gives the kit depth without overloading it.

With this design, Chelsea truly returns to the basics. The kit focuses on the club’s essential elements: blue, the lion, the collar and its history. The return of the lion is a deliberate choice. Chelsea is looking back to the time of legendary coach Ted Drake, who strongly shaped the club in the 1950s. Under him, Chelsea became more closely associated with the name “The Blues”. The lion also developed into a central symbol of the club during that period.

The new kit is accompanied by the “Can’t Tame Us” campaign. Before the launch, Chelsea had prepared the release globally with claw marks, projections and wall murals. Several well-known personalities also presented the kit in advance, including Justin Rose, Madonna and MC Hariel.

With the new home kit, Chelsea brings together tradition, modern performance and a clear visual identity. The lion is once again placed visibly at the centre. In the end, it is exactly this reduction that makes the kit so convincing: Chelsea does not need a grand design gesture here. The club returns to its strongest symbols and turns them into a home kit that feels familiar while still belonging firmly in the present.

It is available now in the Chelsea FC online store and at Nike.
