Mbappé and Vinícius enter the knockouts with the Scorpion

Nike

Nike releases the new Scorpion Pack: a colourway launch for the Mercurial Vapor 17 and Superfly 11, inspired by the legendary “Secret Tournament” campaign from 2002.

Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr. enter the World Cup knockout stages with the new Scorpion Pack. Mbappé in the Superfly 11, Vinícius in the Vapor 17, both in a design rooted in 2002.

The scorpion motif has a long history at Nike. It first appeared in the “Secret Tournament” campaign, one of the most influential football adverts ever made, starring the likes of Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry and Luís Figo, refereed by Eric Cantona. This World Cup, it already featured on Cristiano Ronaldo's Mercurial Superfly 11 “Gold Scorpion”, which Ronaldo debuted against Colombia, though only for one half. In the 0-0 draw, he switched back to his regular Mercurial Superfly 11 in the pink “Breakout” colourway at halftime.

Fluorescent red, black stripes: the design of the Scorpion Pack

Both boots arrive in fluorescent red with bold black, scorpion-informed stripes running across the upper. A shimmering silver Swoosh claims much of the forefoot. The soleplate continues the same colourway underfoot.

The Superfly 11 and Vapor 17 are fundamentally different boots for the first time since 2018. The Vapor 17 is the lightest Mercurial ever made, built around an Atomknit upper and the FlyLite plate, designed for rapid, multi-directional quickness in tight spaces. The Superfly 11 brings the most responsive speed system in Mercurial history: a FlyWeave Ultra upper and an exposed Air Zoom unit in the forefoot, paired with ZoomX foam. For the first time since 2014, the Superfly also returns with a low-cut collar.

Mbappé and Vinícius: two faces of the Scorpion Pack

Mbappé represents straight-line speed. Vinícius thrives on quick turns and changes of direction in tight spaces. Both will wear the boots through the World Cup knockout stages.

Both models release on July 9 at nike.com and select retailers.
