A headband with a postcode, diamond chains for the family and bags from Gucci to Hermès: What Lamine Yamal wore at this World Cup, and what it says about him.
Spain are world champions, and Lamine Yamal played his first World Cup at 19 and won it straight away. Yet anyone looking back at this World Cup 2026 will remember more than his dribbles: Hardly any player has shaped a tournament visually the way the teenager from Mataró did.
The 08304: Lamine Yamal's neighbourhood as a trademark
08304 is the postcode of Rocafonda, the neighbourhood in Mataró where Yamal grew up. At the World Cup, he wore it on his headband, formed its last three digits with his hands after goals, and had the 304 made into a custom diamond chain, a one-of-one piece.
His boots also carried the flags of Morocco and Equatorial Guinea, the home countries of his parents. Yamal wears his roots on his body more visibly than almost any other star of this tournament.
Still, nobody should expect modesty: A second headband simply read Ego Yamal.
Among his most striking pieces of jewellery was a pendant with the initials M and S, said to stand for his parents Mounir and Sheila. Before the semi-final against France, he appeared at the press conference wearing several layered diamond chains and a bracelet, one of which, by his own account, he had bought himself for his 19th birthday.
From Y-3 to Hermès: Lamine Yamal's World Cup pieces
Beyond that, Yamal showed how naturally a 19-year-old now moves through the luxury world. At the trophy celebration after the final, he wore an orange shield visor by Y-3, the line by adidas and Yohji Yamamoto, and before kick-off he had already stood out with a Gucci Horsebit 1955 mini bag.
On other tournament days, he appeared with a green Hermès Mini Kelly, a Chanel tweed tote and Chrome Hearts accessories like the distinctive horseshoe cap.
Then there was a Batman chain, a custom piece set with almost 3,400 diamonds according to one report. Even that reportedly contains a reference to Rocafonda.
This is what Yamal's style looks like: rooted in origin and family, combined with a carefree approach to fashion that knows no boundaries between streetwear and haute couture.
It is also a generational shift in self-presentation. The superstars before him either kept their style small or built brands out of it. Yamal does a third thing: He simply shows everything, the postcode and the Hermès bag, the parents and the ego. Whether that is a contradiction, he leaves for the audience to decide. He himself apparently sees none.
A world champion at 19 he already is. The style icon is only just in the making.
